This study, although never fully realised into a finished painting, relates to other works (one painting and a number of tonal nudes) by Michael in which figures are captured on the stairs. The picture features in the book by Patrick Bade, Michael Leonard, Painter and Illustrator, 2021 (Peter Owen Publishers) at p.172.
