Murfin has exhibited widely, both in the UK and internationally. His work is contained in many regional art galleries, as well as the Government Art Collection. This is part of an ongoing series of works by the artist, in which he examines and highlights the homo-eroticism of classical art; here he has drawn on three titans of French art. The central figure is after Jacques-Louis David (French, 1748-1825), Nude Study of Patroclus, c. 1779; the central tree is after Achille Etna Michallon (French, 1796-1822), The Oak and the Reed, 1816; and the Castello in the distance is after Nicholas Poussin (French, 1594-1665), Landscape with Orpheus and Eurydice, 1650-53.
