Peterwas a prominent British painter and printmaker, particularly celebrated for his mastery of the mezzotint technique. Born in Southwark, London, he received his formal art education at the Bolt Court School of Art and the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. He was an active member of the Chelsea Arts Club and an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers. His work was exhibited extensively during his lifetime, including at the Royal Academy. His works are held in several major institutional collections, including, The British Museum, and The Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge
