Cornelius MacCarthy, (British 1935-2009), Male Nude, 1999

£850.00

Coloured pencil and chalk on paper, signed and dated (lower left), 40cm x 30cm (50cm x 40cm unframed).

Cornelius McCarthy studied art at Goldsmiths College, University of London. His depictions of the male nude vary from representational to abstract. His influences of Cubism are apparent, and perhaps the English derived variant on Cubism and Futurism, Vorticism, found its way into his compositions as well. He was one of the central painters of the male nude in London and in the second half of the 20th century and his work is collected widely, both in the UK and internationally.
