Open House Sunday: 24 July 2022

Henry Miller

Henry will be opening his home gallery again for an Open House on Sunday 24 July. All are welcome and we very much hope you will be able to attend. Online booking is essential via the website and link below.

PaJaMa (Paul Cadmus, Jared French, Margaret French), Paul Cadmus and Margaret French, Lido, Venice, 1949, Silver print, 24cm x 14.5cm, (42cm x 33cm framed). £6,000

This photograph is by Jared French. In 1937, the painters, Paul Cadmus, Jared French and Margaret French began to experient with a camera during summers on Fire Island, Provincetown and New York. They studied themselves and their friends over a period of 20 years. This photo appears in the book ‘Collaboration: The Photographs of Paul Cadmus, Margaret French and Jared French’, by Twelvetrees Press.

Radek J Husak, (Polish b.1984), Embrace I, 2022, pigment transfer, bodycolour, carbon and colour pencils and collage on wooden panel, 84cm x 60cm, (87cm x 63cm framed), £3,500

Based in London, with a masters from the Royal College of Art, his work is sensitive, seductive and multi-layered; highlighting the beauty of the male form. This work forms part of an edition of three, but is unique in its hand-finished colour palate, making this a unique picture.

Drawings and paintings of the nude were central to academic art training in Europe from the 16th century onwards.

Michael Murfin, (British b.1954), Figures from Antiquity, 2022, oil on board, signed (lower left), 39cm x 43.5cm, (50cm x 55cm framed), £6,500

Murfin has exhibited widely, both in the UK and internationally. His work is contained in many regional art galleries, as well as the Government Art Collection.

Michael Leonard, (British b.1933), Bending Nude (Study), 1990, onté on paper, dated (middle left), 29cm x 19.5cm (50cm x 40cm in mount), unframed. £1,750

(Please note this drawing is double-sided.) The nude, particularly the male nude, has been a recurring theme in Leonard’s work. This work relates to the painting ‘Bending Nude, 1984. It was not uncommon for the artist to re-examine previous compositions.
